Mahila (Women's) Bazaar
Every Thursday an average of 10 RAPID members gather in Dharwad to sell their homemade products. This year member's made and sold more than 25 different products from sambaar powder, papad and pickle, to bags and ayurvedic creams and ointments. For many women, the bazaar is the largest source of their weekly income.
In 2008, RAPID hosted 32 weekly bazaars. Our improved marketing support contributed to an annual total of over 5,000 customers in 2008. Our approach to rotate locations throughout different neighborhoods expanded our customer base and increased community awareness. And, our continual business guidance encourages women to approach their work strategically and with professionalism.
In July of 2009 we launched a mobile van pilot project. The van is stocked each day with women's products and then located at different locations around Dharwad. Women work on a rotating schedule, Monday thru Saturday and are responsible for the sales of all items. RAPID continues to measure the success of this program and will begin pursuing new support to purchase a Bazaar shop.
